About
In constant demand as an emerging young composer of ensemble
music, Ryan Fraley (b. 1973) is known for his innovative works
for symphonic and jazz ensembles. His compositions are published
by The FJH
Music Company and Les Taylor Publications, and have been
featured at numerous state music conventions as well as the
Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago.
Fraley is a frequent recipient of ASCAP standard awards for
frequent concert performances.
Ryan received a master's degree in composition from The State
University of New York in Potsdam, and a bachelor's degree
in music theory and composition from Ball State University
in Indiana. His composition teachers have included Elliot
Del Borgo, David Foley, Arthur Frakenpohl, David Heinick,
Jody Nagel, Cleve Scott, Greg Steinke, and Robert Washburn.
Currently Involved in all aspects of print music publishing,
Ryan serves as a composer, arranger, music engraver, and web
site administrator for The FJH Music Company. He is also working
with vocalist Jon
Anderson, from the band Yes,
as an orchestrator and collaborator on Anderson's many solo
projects.
Ryan has taught courses in composition, arranging, computer
music engraving, and music performance at high school and
college levels. Frequently invited to serve in educational
settings, Fraley is often found as an adjudicator, guest composer,
or guest lecturer. He was also an integral part of the development
and support team for the Yamaha Corporation of America's innovative
Music In Education
program, a technology-driven general music classroom in use
at more than 2,000 schools around the world.
An active performer, Ryan appears regularly with The Indianapolis
Jazz Orchestra, Flip City Jazz, Radiant Brass (brass quintet),
Mercy Sakes (a horn-based rock band) and many other groups.
He finds time to enjoy several hobbies, including flying as
a private pilot and caving.
He lives in Indianapolis with his wife Abigail.
