Jazz Combo Plus

features six original charts for small jazz groups. All charts are scored for flexible instrumentation, with play-along tracks provided for every part. That's 48 MP3 files in all. Demonstration solos are provided by some amazing guest musicians and transcribed in both note-for-note versions and easier versions, too. Additional instructional content is provided in each book.

For several years, I directed a high school jazz ensemble that met once-a-week after school. Programming was always a difficult task. I liked to invite any instrument to audition. I could always count on some good players, but never the right assortment to staff a big band. We had too many players to be able to work from lead sheets, not the right set to play standard big band repertoire, and kids who were hungry to play some great music.
