Band directors Larry Ash and David Cole at Fulton Junior
High School (Indianapolis, IN) commissioned this work based
on the life and story of Tecumseh. The piece was composed
in conjunction with Wayne Township Schools and The Indiana
State Museum, and was premiered by the Fulton Junior High
Symphonic Band. Mirroring the success of the school's innovative
cross-curricular study on the USS
Indianapolis, an in-depth historical curriculum of study
was designed to accompany the musical work. This curriculum
included partnerships with local 4th grade classrooms, distance-learning
lessons, visits to museums and historical sites, and the creation
of multi-media student projects.
The second movement (shown above) is presented as a graphic
score, based on an 1821 map of the battle ground at Tippecanoe
Creek near Lafayette, Indiana. (view
